Chikungunya fever virus spreads from Brazzaville to Pool Region in Republic of the Congo

The current epidemic of chikungunya fever has spread from the capital city of Brazzaville to Pool Region. According to authorities at the World Health Organization, a total of 7,014 cases in Brazzaville and 460 in Pool have been reported. There have been no deaths so far.

Travellers should be aware that this infection is similar to dengue fever. There is no known cure and no treatment other than relief of symptoms. Travellers to this area should take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
