Cholera - Accra, Ghana (update)

The on-going outbreak of cholera in Accra and surrounding regions has resulted in a total of 4,000 cases since the first case were detected in September 2010. A total of 482 new cases were reported this past week alone. There have been at least 60 deaths caused by this outbreak which authorities have called “a major outbreak.” The capital city of Accra has been the most affected by this outbreak.

Travellers to Accra and Ghana should be aware of the risk of exposure to cholera and observe strict food and water safety precautions.
