Cholera and armed conflict in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Armed conflict between government troops and rebels who hold the towns of Rugari and Rumangavo in North Kivu has made this area extremely dangerous. The disruption caused by the fighting contributes to the spread of outbreaks of cholera as an estimated 1.5 million refugees flee the conflict area towards Goma.

In spite of existing peace accords, armed conflict continues in the eastern part of Congo. Travellers should avoid all travel in the affected areas. Several countries advise their citizens to defer all travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo at this time.
