Cholera cases surging in Haiti once again after hurricane SANDY's destruction

Flooding in Haiti caused by hurricane SANDY has contributed to an increase in cholera once again in Haiti. Three deaths have been reported along with almost 300 suspected cases. Travellers should be aware that cholera represents a significantly high risk in Haiti. Travellers to Haiti can reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If visiting this country and if gastrointestinal symptoms develop, e.g., vomiting and watery diarrhoea, seek medical care at once.
