Cholera continues to be a common risk in Nigeria

Since cholera first reappeared in May of 2013, there have been 34,000 reported cases of this infection in 19 states, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, and Zamfara. Overall, there have been 664 deaths. All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
