Cholera in Haiti is undergoing several mutations

Although it is the dry season in Haiti and reported cholera cases have decreased in number, recent studies indicate that the cholera germ is undergoing some changes (mutations) that might make it capable of causing more severe disease. Travellers to Haiti should exercise a great deal of caution to reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
