Cholera in Katmandu, Nepal

Cholera cases have been diagnosed in the capital city. A total of 20 cases have been detected in the last few days. The arrival of monsoon rains coupled with contaminated water supplies may be the cause of a possible outbreak.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once. Severe dehydration may occur very quickly.
