Cholera infects hundreds in Somalia

Since the beginning of January, 4,026 people have been suspected to be infected with cholera including 57 deaths, in 8 regions in Somalia. The outbreak is continuing to spread to new villages and districts, but health officials are working on treatment centers and awareness campaigns.

Advice

All travellers can minimize the risk of exposure to this disease. Strictly observe all food and water precautions in any area where there is cholera. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
