Cholera is suspected in the Province of Santiago, Dominican Republic

Over 300 people with symptoms suggestive of cholera have been reported in the Province of Santiago. Until the cause of these symptoms is confirmed by laboratory testing, travellers in this region should take precautions in case the illness turns out to be cholera. Travellers to this area can reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If visiting this area and gastrointestinal symptoms develop, e.g., vomiting and watery diarrhoea, seek medical care at once.
