Cholera is widespread in Chad

As of October 17th, health officials have reported a total of 16,904 cases of cholera with 453 deaths (a mortality rate of 2.7%). The number of new cases has decreased from thousands per week to the present 250 cases and 9 deaths per week.

Travellers in this area should be aware of the risk of exposure to cholera and take all necessary precautions to avoid consuming contaminated food and water.
