Cholera outbreak causes deaths in Plateau State, Nigeria

There have been at least 15 deaths, including 9 children, in a cholera outbreak in the villages of Kantam and Filam in Plateau State. Authorities are blaming contaminated drinking water as the source for these infections.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
