Cholera outbreak in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo

Due to inadequate hygiene and sanitation conditions and heavy rains, cholera has broken out among the thousands of people displaced by a huge munitions blast a month ago in the capital Brazzaville. Although initially identified in this group, cholera poses a risk of spreading in the general population. Travellers to this area can reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If visiting this area and if gastrointestinal symptoms develop, e.g., vomiting and watery diarrhoea, travellers should seek medical care at once.

Visit our Health Library for more information on exposure to and the prevention of Cholera.
