Cholera outbreak in southwest Burundi

In the last 3 weeks, a cholera outbreak with 95 cases and 1 death has been reported, mainly in Kabezi in Bujumbura Rural province and in Ruziba in the Burundian capital Bujumbura. The number of infected people is increasing daily.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers can minimize the risk of exposure to this disease. Strictly observe all food and water precautions in any area where there is cholera. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
