Cholera outbreak in Tanzania after regional festive activities

Tanzania’s central region of Dodoma has seen 329 people infected with cholera and at least seven deaths during the festive season in the area. The districts that are most affected are Mpwapwa, Kongwa, Chamwino, and Dodoma. Officials have banned selling food on the side of the road and other public places during the festive season to hopefully minimize the outbreak.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers can minimize the risk of exposure to this disease. Strictly observe all food and water precautions in any area where there is cholera. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
