More than 100 people in Lilong have complained of severe gastrointestinal symptoms similar to cholera. With no clear source of potable water, residents in this area turn to ponds and the river for drinking water.

Given that the sources of drinking water are probably contaminated, it is highly likely that an outbreak of cholera is beginning in this area. Travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions.
