Cholera outbreaks near Baghdad Governate, Iraq

There are unconfirmed reports of outbreaks of cholera in the areas of Abu Ghraib, Zaidan and Radwaniyah, west of Baghdad. However, the total number of cases is not reported. These areas have had cholera outbreaks in the past due to contaminated water supplies.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once. Severe dehydration may occur very quickly.
