Cholera spreads in Tanzania

The cholera outbreak that began in Dar es Salaam in August has spread to Dodoma, Geita and Mwanza and 11 other provinces. A total of 3,500 cases with 54 deaths have been recorded.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once. Severe dehydration may occur very quickly.
