Civil unrest in Malawi

When local police tried to suppress a demonstration in Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, a riot broke out. Tear gas was used. Reports suggest that between 1 and 9 people were killed. The anti-government protesters were demonstrating over the handling of the economy. The protests were organised by the the Human Rights Consultative Committee, a group of more than 80 rights groups.
