Civil unrest in Nicaragua

There are media reports of civil unrest in Nicaragua following the municipal elections this past weekend. Reports state that at least five people were killed and at least 67 people injured in violence in 13 municipalities. The police have not provided details.

The most serious violence was along Nicaragua’s northern Caribbean coast. Travellers should avoid the North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACCN) and the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region (RACCS), including the Corn Islands at this time.
