Civil unrest in Nigeria

Although the current election underway for the president of Nigeria has been mostly peaceful, some violence has been reported from the northern part of the country over perceived vote rigging. Rioting involving the burning of the offices of the ruling People's Democratic Party in one of four affected states occurred on Sunday. In the state of Taraba, police used tear gas to quell some demonstrations. Political division between the northern and southern parts of the country may result in public demonstrations.

Travellers to this region should avoid all demonstrations and exercise extreme caution since demonstrations may quickly become violent.
