Civil unrest returns to Bahrain

Two separate incidents reflect the on-going political and civil tensions in Bahrain. In one incident, a gas canister was detonated in a car; however, there were no casualties. In the second incident, a policeman was injured when his patrol car was attacked with petrol fire bombs. Bahrain's parliament has decreed tougher measures against so-called “terrorists” in the 30-month uprisings by majority Shias, who are seeking a greater political voice in the Sunni-ruled kingdom. Traveller should be aware that several countries continue to advise their citizens to avoid travelling to Bahrain at this time due to the uncertain personal security situation.
