Concern in Odessa, Ukraine, for possible hepatitis A outbreak

Health authorities in Odessa are concerned that there may be an epidemic of hepatitis A in the near future due to the heavy contamination of the water supply. Hepatitis A can be prevented through vaccination. When there is a risk of exposure to hepatitis A virus, travellers can reduce this risk by obtaining the vaccine prior to travelling and by exercising caution and avoiding consuming contaminated food and water. Following strict water precautions will also prevent many other infections transmitted by contaminated water.
