Concern over dengue fever in Thailand

Reports of dengue fever infections have increased recently during the rainy season. Last week, there were 3,303 reported infections with 3 deaths (recorded in the provinces of Pathum Thani, Ratchaburi and Petchaburi). So far, the total for the year has reached 42,900 cases and 35 deaths. The most affected provinces include Rayong, Trad, Petchaburi, Tak and Ang Thong.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
