Cremation ceremonies for Thai king scheduled for 25-27 October 2017

The cremation ceremony for the King of Thailand, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, will be held from 25 to 27 October 2017 in the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Other ceremonies are scheduled for other venues in Bangkok and other major cities across the country.

Advice

During this time, tourist attractions across Thailand will be open as usual, except Bangkok’s Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. These sites will be closed until October 29.   At this time, respect the sensitivities and culture of the Thai people. Wear respectful and modest clothing in public. Do not behave in a disrespectful or inappropriate manner. Shopping areas will be open. Entertainment activities will be cancelled or toned down during the ceremony.

There will most likely be significant road traffic disruption in central Bangkok due to large gatherings of people and road closures.
