Advice For Travellers

Travellers should be aware of the political tensions and of the violence and armed resistance that began in April with protests against President Pierre Nkurunziza's third-term bid. Many countries are advising citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to Burundi. Avoid areas where violence has occurred, including Kanyosha, Musaga, Kamenge Cibitoke, Ngagara, Nyakabiga and Bujumbura-rural. Avoid road travel outside Bujumbura after dark. Some countries advise citizens already in the country to depart Burundi.
