Cross-border firing between Indian and Pakistan leaves 17 dead

Cross-border firing between Indian and Pakistan has left 17 people dead. Thousands are displaced, having had to flee the area, and others are unable to safely leave due to the shelling.

The armed conflict sporadically occurs along the 200-kilometer border between the Indian-controlled area of Kashmir and the Punjab province of Pakistan. Due to the ongoing conflict in this area, many countries advise against any travel to Jammu and Kashmir, including the tourist areas of Phalgam, Gulmarg and Sonamarg. This warning does not apply to travel within the cities of Srinagar and Jammu or air travel between these two cities on the national highway and does not apply to travel within the Ladakh region.
