Dangerous levels of air pollution in Beijing, China

Pollution readings in Beijing indicate that pollution measurements have risen to extremely dangerous levels, and are expected to remain so for the next three days. At these levels, people with asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema and the elderly and children should remain indoors.

Travellers can take some steps to protect themselves. Stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed. Only exercise indoors where the air is filtered. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids to keep the respiratory tract moist. Wear a mask.
