Deadly Attack on a Security Checkpoint in Tajik-Uzbek Border, Tajikistan

On 6 November, Islamic State insurgents launched an attack at the “Ishkobod” security checkpoint on the Tajik-Uzbek border which resulted in the death of at least two security officers. At least 15 militants were killed and five more were arrested in the armed conflict.

Advice

Border security is an issue. About 8,000 militants remain in Afghanistan near the Tajikistan border. Avoid border areas with Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan due to an unstable security situation, including armed conflict and also unmarked landmine areas.
