So far, local health authorities have recorded 23 deaths due to cholera among the 598 reported cases of the disease. Travellers to this area can reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
