Deadly cholera outbreak in Banfèlè town, Kouroussa prefecture in Upper Guinea

A cholera outbreak in Banfèlè town in the prefecture of Kouroussa has resulted in 27 reported cases and 8 deaths. In addition, since the beginning of this year, 150 cases of cholera and 10 deaths have been reported from Lower Guinea and Middle Guinea.

Travellers to any area where cholera has been reported can reduce the risk of exposure to this infection by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., vomiting and profuse watery diarrhoea) develop while visiting the affected area, travellers should seek medical care at once.
