Deadly cholera spreads in Mali

The cholera epidemic that began in Wabaria has spread to the rest of the Gao Region. By the end of August, a total of 164 cases and 12 deaths were reported. Control efforts have been hampered by the presence of armed bandits and lack of security in the region.

Travellers to this area can reduce the risk of exposure to cholera by strictly observing all food and water precautions. If visiting this area and gastrointestinal symptoms develop, e.g., vomiting and watery diarrhoea, seek medical care at once.
