During demonstrations for electoral changes and in support for Muqtada al-Sadr, an influential Shia leader, security forces used tear gas and fired rubber bullets into the crowd. At least 4 protesters and 1 policeman were killed during the confrontation near the Green Zone.

Advice For Travellers

Due to civil unrest, frequent terrorist attacks and lack of personal safety, many countries advise their citizens to avoid all travel to Iraq. If travel cannot be avoided, do not visit government buildings, security installations, markets, and cafes that are often targets for suicide bombers.
