Deadly suicide bombs in Kurram tribal area in Pakistan

Two suicide bombs were detonated within minutes of each other in the market place in Parachinar, capital of the tribal Kurram area in northwest Pakistan. At least 57 people were killed and more than 150 injured. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The Kurram tribal region, like much of northwest Pakistan, has been embroiled in violence for years. Taliban fighters trying to overthrow the Pakistani government have carried out a campaign of suicide bombings and shootings against Pakistan security forces and other targets. Several countries advise their citizens to avoid all travel in northwestern Pakistan.
