Deadly violence across Bangladesh

Following the sentencing to death of the Islamic Jamaat-e-Islami party leader for abuses carried out during the war for independence in 1971, extensive rioting broke out among his followers. At least 30 people were killed, including policemen, while over 300 were injured. Travellers may wish to consider postponing travel to this country during this time of heightened tension. Regardless, travellers should always exercise caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they may become violent without warning.
