Deadly violence in Jalisco State, Mexico

At least seven people were killed in violence in Jalisco State today after the military launched an operation targeting a drug cartel. Gunmen fired at a military helicopter forcing an emergency landing and killing three soldiers. Members of the drug cartel set up at least 29 roadblocks on key highways in Guadalajara and other cities, including the resort of Puerto Vallarta. Roadblocks were also reported in Colima State. Eleven banks and five gas stations were firebombed.

Some countries advise citizens to avoid travel to Jalisco State.
