Death toll from violence in Iraq tops 917 people for January

The death toll due to violence in Iraq for January 2014 alone was at least 917 people. At least two people were killed in a hostage situation that ended today at a government building. Others have been killed in various bombings and shootings across the country, as well as the battle to take back parts of Ramadi and Fallujah which have been held by militants for weeks.

Most countries advise against all travel to Iraq.
