Death toll nears 700 due to heat wave in Pakistan

Due to a 3-day heatwave in Pakistan, a state of emergency has been declared in hospitals, and the army is being deployed to assist stroke centers, particularly the southern province of Sindh. Power outages have added to the crisis, limiting the use of air conditioning and fans.

Travellers can take measures to avoid heat stroke, such as: drink a quart of fluid an hour, but avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol; wear damp clothing; wear loose-fitting clothing; place hands in cold water; or take a cool shower.
