Deaths due to dengue fever in Ceará, Brazil

Twenty-eight people have died due to dengue fever in the state of Ceará. In the last 7 days, there were 2,500 new cases of this infection. Across the state, the total for this year has reached almost 28,000 cases, with half occurring in the capital city of Fortaleza. Jangurussu, with almost 1,600 cases has the highest rate of infection based on population size.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
