Deaths from dengue fever reported in Lara, Venezuela

So far in 2013, 2 people have died from dengue haemorrhagic fever and 130 new dengue fever cases were reported in one week in Lara. A total of 519 cases have been registered this year. There may be many more cases. Counting and reporting cases of dengue may be hampered by lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
