Deaths in Jakarta area due to dengue fever

So far this year, there have been 5 deaths among the more than 1,000 cases of dengue fever recorded in the Jakarta capital area. Most of the cases occurred in the South Jakarta areas of Pancoran, Kebayoran Baru, Cilandak and Pesanggrahan. While there appears to be a slight decrease compared to last year, travellers can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
