Deliberate food contamination in New Delhi, India

An outbreak of illness caused by deliberately contaminated buckwheat (kuttu) has resulted in the death of one person and the hospitalization of over 300 persons. Kuttu is a grain that is widely consumed by persons who are fasting during the 9 day Hindu festival of Navratas. At least 17 persons have been arrested for selling the contaminated food.

Travellers should be aware of the risk of consuming unsafe or adulterated food and exercise all necessary precautions to avoid unsafe food and water.
