Demonstration Against the CFA Franc Currency on 14 September

The Civil Society group, Urgence Panafricaniste, announced demonstrations in several capital cities on 14 September to protest against the use of the CFA franc currency, which was introduced in 1945 in French Colonies (West Africa). The places where the demonstrations have been scheduled are as follows:

  • Bamako (Mali) at 15:30 - At Bourse du Travail
  • Niamey (Niger) at 08:00 – At Place de La Concertation
  • Cotonou (Benin) at 15:00 – At Centre Penaf
  • Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) at 15:00 – At Municipal Mediatheque
  • Accra (Ghana) at 09:00 – At the French embassy
  • Abuja (Nigeria) at 09:45 - Outside the Economic Community of West African States offices
  • Nouakchott (Mauritanie) at 10:00 – At Independence Avenue
  • Lome (Togo) at 14:00 – In the Hanoukope neighborhood
  • Paris (France) at 15:00 – Place de La Republic
  • Bangui (CAR) at 14:30 – On Martyrs Avenue
  • Brazzaville (Congo) from 13:00 – 15:00 – At Mairie Centrale
  • Dusseldorf (Germany) at 15:30 – At Martin Luther Platz
  • Milan (Italy) at 14:00 - Piazza Duca d’Aosta
  • Les Gonaives (Haiti) at 10:00 – From Memorial de l’independance at Rue Liberte to Total Gas Station in Les Gonaives
  • Cayenne (French Guiana) at 08:30 – In front of the Prefecture of Cayenne
  • Sainte Suzanne (France) at 08:30 – At Carrefour Reunion
