Demonstrations against German chancellor's visit to Greece turn violent

A very large demonstration involving tens of thousands of people protesting the visit by German chancellor Angela Merkel turned violent when protesters threw rocks and bottles and tried to breach security barricades. Greek police fired tear gas and stun grenades in central Athens to stop the protesters who had gathered in Syntagma Square. Trevellers should always exercise caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they may become violent without notice.
