Demonstrations against the ban on Islamic face veils in France

Demonstrations have taken place in France for the past two nights to protest the ban on Islamic face veils. About 250 protesters clashed with police in the Paris suburb of Trappes and the town of Elancourt after a man allegedly attacked police who stopped his wife who was wearing a full-face veil. About 20 cars were set on fire during the protests. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Travellers should be aware of the political tensions and avoid all public gatherings and demonstrations as these situations can turn violent unexpectedly.
