Demonstrations planned around Hofburg Palace, Vienna, Austria, January 29, 2016

The U.S. Embassy in Vienna, Austria, has posted a notice that the Wiener Akademiker Ball is scheduled for the evening of January 29th, 2016, at the Hofburg Palace in the First District. Police expect a large demonstration against the ball. Roads near the Hofburg Palace and Heldenplatz will be blocked beginning at 15:00 (3 pm) on January 29. Streets will be closed both inside the Ring road and to the South of Wipplingerstrasse and West of Rotenturmstrasse/Kartnerstrasse. The area immediately around the Hofburg Palace will be restricted to residents and ball guests beginning at 17:00 (5 pm).
