Dengue and scrub typhus reported in Nepalgunj, Banke District, Nepal

Health authorities are reporting rapid increases in patients infected with dengue and scrub typhus in Nepalgunj. So far more than 70 patients (60 with scrub typhus and 10 with dengue) have been treated at Bheri Zonal Hospital and Nepalgunj Medical College Teaching Hospital.

Although these infections are transmitted by different insects (dengue by mosquitoes and scrub typhus by mite larva), avoidance of insect bites can minimize the risk of exposure to these infections.
