Dengue deaths reported in La Libertad, Peru

So far, there have been 101 deaths due to dengue fever in La Libertad. The most affected district is El Porvenir, including Rio Seco, in the province of Trujillo where there have been as many as 91 cases of dengue. The neighbouring districts of Laredo and La Esperanza are also reporting cases. Another affected area includes the province of Ascope.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
