Dengue epidemic in Selangor, Malaysia

Dengue has been declared to be an epidemic in Selangor. A record number of people infected with this virus (more than 11,200) have been registered since the start of the year. There have been 11 deaths.

In Penang, the number of reported cases (1014 dengue fever cases with 9 deaths) has also increased this year.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
