Dengue fever alerts in many cities in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil

Across the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, there have been 2,243 reported cases of dengue fever. Two deaths have been registered. The city of Campo Grande has been most affected with 1,076 suspected cases. However, other cities such as Bodoquena, Rio Negro, Antônio João and Jateí are among 11 cities with high levels of dengue.

Many cases of dengue fever are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
