Dengue fever already at high levels in Minas Gerais, Brazil

After recording more than 180,000 cases of dengue fever in 2015, the state has already identified slightly more than 1,600 infected people in the first 11 days of this year.

Advice For Travellers

The risk of exposure to dengue fever in this state, as well as other Brazilian states, will continue in 2016, and it may be high from place to place. All travellers to Minas Gerais where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
